About

WHO WE ARE

TWMC (Taiwan Math/Science Circle) is a non-profit organization created and supported by the leaders of the Berkeley Math Circle that gathered many Taiwanese students to bond and explore the realms of the mathematical world. The TWMC Student Association was started in 2018, due to the common interest of the Taiwanese students who are part of TWMC, to serve the purpose of connecting students and creating a welcoming environment for curious learners. Recently, the spread of COVID-19 disturbed many families, causing them to lose money and each other. We have noticed the needs of the people around us and felt that there must be something that we can do. Hence, we gathered many supports from organizations, foundations, and enterprises, to start our charity project.

WHAT WE DO

We noticed the damage COVID-19 deals on the elders and the children, so we will begin events where we visit and care for the residents of nursing homes and orphanages. We want them to know that there are people who care for them and want to reach out to them. Our current plan is to help and support those in our communities, and ensure that there is a on-going system that they can rely on. In the future, we hope to branch out into the whole nation and support the disadvantaged. Although there is a limit to what us as students will be able to achieve, we want to start by doing what we can, by using the talents of each of us. We will be hosting fundraising music performances, auctioning self-made artwork, giving company to the old, tutoring the young, etc. We will give this our all and also connect with and invite companies to join us and spread the love. However, not only will we help the people, we also plan to work on preserving the aboriginal culture, because it's part of our history and our identity.

Helping allows us to connect with others, create stronger communities, and help build a happier society for everyone. It's not all about money - we can also give our time, ideas and energy to help those who are in need. If we all work together, we will be able to help the community and support the people. I had lived with my grandma for many years, and I've never understood why she would smile even after using up a lot of her energy and resources to help those around her. I worked as a member of the school council of a Christian school that plans and hosts many charity events. Through these events, I've worked with many compassionate people and have learned a lot of knowledge. I pondered on what grandma has told me and what I've learned from everybody from the events and from school, I finally understand why grandma smiles - because "it's more blessed to give than to receive". I want to inspire everyone and spread this ideal to the world.

Walt Jiang, Vice President of Event-Planning Department

I am Walt Jiang and I am in 6 grade. I am so glad to be a part of TWMC student council. It is my pleasure to do this job because I like to plan all sorts of fun activities. I want to spend time creating a list of things we can do to help this world as best as we can. I have been to different places that people need to help such as orphanages,
Hospital, and Caring homes. I have also been a volunteer that helps elders and children that have health problems or no family.I hope though this job to help more elders and kids that have no people to take care of. I also want more people to be a volunteer to take care of elder and kid. I hope this job will bring more people to do the same thing. Life is about service.

Ryan Huang , Former Vice President of Financial Department

I am very grateful that I have this chance to serve those who are in need. We often put our attention on the best ones in our society, but it is important to heed those that need care and support. Everyone has a story to tell and everyone should be treated equally. I inspire everyone to join TWMC CHARITY and create a loving community with us.

Wei-Jhen Chen, Vice President of News and Information Department

I want to join the student union because I hope I can help people who need to volunteer. This also means that we have stronger abilities and more resources than people, so we stand up more and more to give them a hand. When I'm helping people, I will feel cheerful because other people are happy and it makes me happy. I think it is very meaningful for me because I can spend my time participating in other different significant things for other people in the world. For my future, I hope that I can get good grades by studying more in school and reading more books, getting into a good college so I can find a high paid job, and the most important one is to help more people by joining the student union.

Po-Lin Chen, Vice President (Foundation Section)

I joined the student union because I think it is a very amazing experience. We help people not because we want to be known or be praised, but because we want to change the world and make it a better place for the future generations. Thinking of all the things I'm planning to do in the future, joining the student union is only my first step. I hope I can do a lot to help everyone as I grow!

Yu Chang, Vice President of IT Department

Mia Lin , Director of Cultural Development Department

Helping others in the community does not just make people happy, it also brings different people together. I joined this organization because I realized many people were in need, and I felt their lives were not very easy and unfair. With this help, people might be more positive and feel warm. After that, people might share their love with others. My grandpa always teaches me that others helping me is good, but if I can help others that would be even better. I believe helping people is a great way to understand other’s feelings and make them happier.

散播快樂散播愛,伸出雙手幫助需要幫助的人。
有一分心盡一分力,讓社會更加美好。

Tiffany Chu, Vice President of PR

Yu Tung Pan, Vice President of Recruiting Department

I think charity groups are really meaningful because they show how small actions can still bring warmth to others. I didn’t join just to “do something good,” but because I wanted to feel connected to people and help in simple ways. Sometimes, just giving some time or saying a few kind words can make someone’s day better. That’s what touched me the most. Being part of a charity group has also helped me grow—I’ve met people from different backgrounds, learned to be more thankful, and realized that giving also brings joy to myself. I believe that doing good doesn’t have to be something huge. Even small kindness matters.

Ding Jieh Lee , Former Vice President of Accounting Section
